Wimbledon Adopts Video Review System in 2025.

Wimbledon court with video review technology

Wimbledon will follow the US and Aussie Opens in implementing video review systems.

Video review technology are set to arrive at The Championships in the upcoming tournament.

Athletes are granted the option to question certain decisions from the official, echoing the protocol already in use at each of the American Grand Slam and the Aussie major.

This technology is slated for use on Centre Court and Court One throughout the Championships and on the remaining show courts when they are staging singles contests.

This step follows just a year after the All England Club introduced electronic line calling, which brought an end to the 147-year role of line officials.

What Can Be Reviewed?

Players cannot to dispute the accuracy of the ELC system, but are allowed to request the umpire to re-examine specific situations, such as:

  • If a ball has bounced twice.
  • If a shot touched an opponent's racquet or body on the way past.
  • Possible hindrance end of a rally.

Notably, there is no limit on the number of challenges a player can ask for.

Practical Application

An illustrative case took place in Indian Wells last week, where a top player used the review system against his opponent.

Draper admitted it was a tough situation for the official, but believed his opponent had "used the regulations effectively."

Official Aurelie Tourte watched a video and ruled the player was guilty of hindrance, granting the point to Medvedev.

Growing Trend

This technology are not new for major tournaments. It has been in use at the American major since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.

Furthermore, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by next season the ATP circuit plans to have the system implemented at all of its events.

Other Changes

Another change at Wimbledon this year involves the introduction of visual indicators on scoreboards to complement the audio calls from the electronic line calling system.

This addresses instances where fans have occasionally been uncertain if a ball was out or in.

Finally, with precisely a century of days to go until the beginning of the Championships, the AELTC have also revealed an increase in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
